WATCH SHORT FILM

A man who works as a human punching bag to relieve others of their stress gets caught up in a noirish mystery pertaining to a strange device that everyone’s after.

WHIPPING BOY is a 12-minute short film that was created for PROTOTYPE – a film competition created by New Regency and Defy Media. Out of 800 submissions only 8 sci-fi, action, and effects-driven filmmakers were selected and awarded $20,000 each to make their short films.

Writing partner Aiah Samba penned the short while Chance directed and produced alongside long-time collaborator Vicki de Mey as well as the multi-faceted Ed Ng of BE Media (producer, cinematographer, you name it he can do it – even supercars). All choreography and lead stunts were performed by Eric Jacobus.

The production spanned 6 days in San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles and was supported by many generous supporters like visual effects house NTropic overseen by Nate Robinson, and lead by Jesse Boots and Deb Santosa.

Congratulations to Daniel Perea and Steven Ilous for winning with their film POLIS. You can view all the Prototype films here.
